Scholarship Selection Process

The Margaret Waterman Alumnae Group is classified as one of the alumnae and alumni clubs of the University of Michigan. These clubs support scholarships with fundraising events, endowed fund earnings, bequests and annual gifts from individuals.

Students seeking scholarships do not make application directly to the clubs. Instead, they contact the Office of Financial Aid where the formal process originates.

Some of the requirements for applicants are: current enrollment in a degree-granting program of the University of Michigan, minimum cumulative GPA average of 3.0, need-based financial aid, demonstrated involvement in the University community, and enrollment during the academic year of requested aid. After the Office of Financial Aid has approved applicants as candidates for scholarships, their applications are submitted to us for consideration as named scholars.

This year, Waterman will continue support of six returning scholars and has added two new scholars. Each Waterman Scholar will receive a $5000 scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year. We are proud of their achievements and wish them continued success.
