DESCRIPTION:Orin Grossman has been delighting audiences the world over with his unique approach to performing and explaining great American and European music. Dr. Grossman began piano theory instruction at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge\, Massachusetts at the age of five. He studied music at Harvard College\, graduating magna cum laude and continued his studies at Yale University\, earning a Ph.D. in Music. Dr. Grossman became Assistant Professor of Fine Arts at Fairfield University in 1975. In 1991 he was named Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. After ten years as the Academic Vice President at Fairfield University\, he returned to the faculty in the fall of 2009 as Professor of Visual and Performing Arts. As a journalist\, he has been witness to some of the defining moments in Asia’s history over the past 40 years.  Mr. Laurie was the only American network correspondent to cover the communist takeover of Saigon\, and reported from Beijing on the events of Tiananmen Square.  Mr. Laurie graduated from American University with a degree in History and a certificate in Asian Studies. His postgraduate studies were at George Washington University’s Sino-Soviet Institute.

SUMMARY:Women in Advertising - Jean Kilbourne
DESCRIPTION:Jean Kilbourne is recognized around the world for her pioneering work on the image of women in advertising. In the late 1960s\, she began her exploration of the connection between advertising and public health issues. She created the renowned film series Killing Us Softly: Advertising’s Image of Women and authored the award-winning book Can’t buy My Love: How Advertising Changes the Way We Think and Feel. Jean received her BA in English from Wellesley College and a doctorate in education from Boston University. She has received numerous honorary degrees and national awards. Jean is known for her ability to present provocative topics in a way that encourages dialogue and empowers action.

DESCRIPTION:The History of Film – Marc Lapadula\nMarc Lapadula is a playwright\, screenwriter\, film producer\, and university lecturer. His stage plays have been produced in the U.S. and in England. He produced Angel Passing\, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and won\, among other awards\, the grand prize at WorldFest Houston. Marc has taught screenwriting\, playwriting\, and film analysis at Johns Hopkins\, the University of Pennsylvania (his alma mater)\, Columbia University\, and Yale University. He led the Screenwriting Series at the Smithsonian Institution. Marc studied Irish and English Drama at Oxford University\, received his MA from the University of East Anglia in England\, and earned an MFA in playwriting from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop.

She has been a fellow at several universities\, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars\, and the U.S. Institute of Peace. Robin received the U.N. Correspondents Gold Medal\, the National Magazine Award\, and the Overseas Press Club Award. The American Academy of Diplomacy selected her as the journalist of the year in 2004. Her latest book is Rock the Casbah: Rage and Rebellion Across the Islamic World. Ann Arbor native and U-M grad\, Robin received an honorary degree from her alma mater in 2015.
